Marten Luiten and the Dutch Welsh pony Movie Star became the winners of the Finals of the 2016-2017 Dutch FEI Pony Cup show circuit on Saturday 1 July 2017. The finals were held at equestrian centre Den Gouberg in Roosendaal, The Netherlands and were an important observation event for team selection for the 2017 European Pony Championships.

Luiten and Movie Star (by Hagelkruis Valentijn) were the winners of the third and sixth qualifier which took place during the winter and spring of 2016-2017 and were the hot favourites for the title at the Finals, in which 14 riders competed in the first round and six moved on to the kur. They won the team test with 73.974% and the kur with 79.625% to average a winning total of 76.800%.

Micky Schelstraete and the German Riding pony Elin's Noncisdador (by Nostradamus) were the runners-up, finishing second with an average of 72.036% after scoring 71.239M and 72.833%. Brandy Bos and her Dutch Welsh pony Charming Foret (by Bodo x Leuns Veld's Elegant) landed third place with 71.803% after posting 70.897% and 72.708% on the board.

"It already went really well in the team test, but it was even better and prettier in the kur to music," Luiten commented after his winning freestyle ride. "I notice that we are getting better on form and I hope to continue to work this way and that we get to go to the European Championships. I went to watch there last year and then I already thought I want to compete in one. It would be cool if it were to work this year as it is my last on ponies."
