The 25-year old Oldenburg licensed breeding stallion Lagoheidor has passed away on Wednesday 25 January 2017. The stallion succumbed to complications from laminitis.

"We had made progress with healing and had setbacks, until finally we lost the war," Hardy explained. "His condition suddenly and unexpectedly changed on Wednesday. As I saw his foot deteriorating, I had a meltdown and was crying hysterically while standing in his stall. I knew it was the end. He came over to me, my eyes were closed, and he kept gently kissing my face. Trying to console me despite his discomfort. We had a very warm and peaceful evening full of love and Lago kisses. And of course, he was savoring his favorite treat, a marshmallow as he took his final breath."

Bred by Gerd Sosath in Germany, Lagoheidor is by Landadel out of Fureida (by Godehard x Furioso II x Adrian xx) He is a full brother to the renowned jumper sire Landor S and Landwerder.  He was the 1994 Oldenburg Licensing Champion and winner of the 1995 Stallion Performance Test Champion in Medingen.

For two years he bred in the Baden-Wurttemberg area in Germany, before moving to the Dutch Van der Kamp family of stallion station De Havikerwaard in The Netherlands. Lagoheidor's current owner Sharon Hardy bought the stallion in December 2000. The horse was in the U.S.A for just one year before returning to Germany for further training.

At the end of 2001 Hardy had har euro base in Frankfurt. Lagoheidor and her were first at equestrian centre Kirchborn, before moving to Gut Neuhof to train with Ellen Bontje and Conrad Schumacher. After a few years she moved to Kronenhof, where she worked with Thomas Wagner and Johan Vanthienen

Charlotte Heal showed the dark bay stallion up to Intermediaire I level from 2002 till 2003. In the summer of 2003 Hardy took over and showed him at small tour level until 2006. In those years the duo competed mainly in Germany and internationally at the CDI's in Mechelen, Brno, Dortmund, and Bremen. In 2008 he was shown for one more year in the U.S.A. at USDF recognized shows.

Lagoheidor sired only one licensed son in Germany (Living) and produced 4 state premium mares. His most successful offspring in sport are Grand Prix dressage horses FBW Lonevan (Helen Langehanenberg, Ingrid Klimke), and Largo B (Lysa Georg) as well as jumpers Leopold (Melanie Mack) and Lancelot (Nina Demel).

"He was a once in a lifetime horse for me, really more human than horse. He was thoughtful, compassionate, loving, sensible, and understanding. He had an incredible natural presence coupled with a powerful, brilliant, & athletic movement," said Hardy. " I was blessed to have had him as my partner for the past 16 years. He gave me amazing opportunities to compete at major shows throughout Europe, introduced me to many wonderful people who I now cherish as friends, and he left a legacy of beautiful babies that I look forward to watching grow up and compete."

Hardy still has two young colts, Lagostern (by Lagoheidor x Regazzoni x Davignon) and L'Caretello (by Lagoheidor x Caretello B ) which she considers her next stallion prospects.
