Danish Olympic team rider Cathrine Dufour won the prestigious Olympic Hope Award and received the trophy at the annual Danish sports awards gala "Sport 2016" which was broadcast live on Danish television on 7 January 2017.

The Olympic Hope award is sponsored by the Danish fashion company Bestseller and it entails a cach price of 100,000 DKK and clothes sponsorshop valued at 25,000 DKK as a boost on their path to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Dufour was the double European Young Riders Champion in 2012 and 2013 before moving to Grand Prix level. Aboard Atterupgaards Cassidy (by Caprimond x Donnerhall) she was selected on the Danish team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. She was the youngster member of the team and ended up being the best performing Dane in Rio with a 13th place in the Kur to Music finals.

It was the 8th time that the Olympic Hope Award has been awarded to a talented Danish athlete, who shows a positive attitude, an Olympic dream and with potential for top level in the sport.

"I'm overwhelmed and can't even describe how amazing it feels receiving this price, Bestseller's 'Olympic Hope'. Thanks to every single one of you who've supported me and my team throughout the years," said Dufour.

Paralympian Stinna Tange Kaastrup, who won double bronze at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio, was awarded the Disability Award from Ministery of Culture.
