Olympic team gold and kur silver medal winning Isabell Werth will be making her show come back on the 15-year old Don Johnson, who has recovered from the injury he sustained in March 2016.

Madeleine Winter-Schulze's Hanoverian gelding Don Johnson (by Don Frederico x Warkant) has been out of action since the beginning of March 2016. Right before the CDI-W 's Hertogenbosch, the combination had to withdraw from the show after the bay gelding sustained an injury in his stall at home in Rheinberg, Germany. They also missed out on the 2016 World Cup Finals because of that.

After eight months, Werth will return to the show ring with her temperamental Don Johnson at the 2016 CDI Maastricht on 11 - 13 November 2016.  She will be joined in Maastricht by her student Beatrice Buchwald as well as upcoming German Grand Prix rider Marc Patrick Fritz, who acquired Bonzanjo in The Netherlands in the spring and has been training with the horse's former rider Diederik van Silfhout.

The 2016 CDI Maastricht has also received entries from Richard Davison (Bubblingh), Hans Peter Minderhoud (Flirt), and Diederik van Silfhout who will compete Arlando again for the first time since the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The field will also include Dominican republic's Yvonne Losos de Muniz on her new Grand Prix ride Aquamarijn, as well as Dutch Marieke van der Putten who makes her CDI FEI level debut on Zingaro Apple.
