One of the historic auction price highlights, Lemony's Nicket, has finally made a come back to the show ring as a gelding and under a new rider, Michael Klimke. Lemony's Nicket sold for 900,000 euro at the Verden Elite Auction and then disappeared from the scene.

The bay Hanoverian Lemony's Nicket is bred by Dietmar Eckardt and born in 2008. He is by Londonderry x Weltmeyer x Latino. He first made his claim to fame by winning the 2011 Bundeschampionate for 3-year old stallions under Thomas Scholz.

At the 2011 autumn saddle licensing the Hanoverian stallion licensing committee easily approved the stallion based on his sport results and to make him a more attractive sale at the 2011 Hanoverian Autumn Elite Auction, where Americans Leslie and John Malone of Harmony Sporthorses acquired the horse for the record price of 900,000 euro. A major sensation.

The Malones have a long-standing collaboration with Ingo and Susan Pape in Hemmoor, Germany, and the dark bay stallion moved to their yard to stand at stud and for further training. He completed the 30-day stallion performance test in Schlieckau in November 2011 with a 9.29 dressage score and 8.03 jumping score to total 8.84 points.

Lemony's Nicket was popular with breeders in the beginning, but few offspring have stood out at auctions or breed shows. Only one colt is approved out of two crops so far. Since the auction the horse was only presented in public at a few select stallion shows in winter. Susan Pape competed the stallion just once, at the local show in Wedel, a Bundeschampionate Qualifier for 6-year olds, in June 2014. They finished 11th in the L-level test and 4th in the M-level test there.

That was Lemony's Nicket only competition until his return two years later at last weekend's regional show in Ankum, Germany. Under Michael Klimke, who is also part of the Harmony Sporthorses/Pape partnership as a trainer and rider, Lemony's Nicket was shown in the developing Prix St Georges horse class and finished third with 70.635%

"As a young horse he was out of work for a year due to a kidney infection and little other issues," Michael Klimke told Eurodressage. "During my stay in Florida this season, the Malone's and Pape's decided to give me the opportunity to ride the horse."

With a sport career in mind Lemony's Nicket was gelded in April and he moved from Pape's station to Klimke's base in Munster, Germany in June.

"I personally think it is easier in many ways for him as a gelding like behaviour, traveling and training," said Klimke. "The Malone's support me now with Harmony's Depardieu and Lemony's Nicket. It is one of the best horses I ever had and I will bring him to Florida 2017 and ride him at the CDI's in the small tour."
