Sleeth and a freezing cold temperature on Monday 25 April 2016 caused the Oldenburg spring foal branding and inspection at Dressage Performance Centre Lodborgen (DLZ) to move from the outdoor show grounds to the indoor arena. The quality of the foals presented at this first "indoor" foal show" at DLZ, though, was up to standard.
The Oldenburg Foal Inspection Committee, headed by breeding director Dr. André Hahn, selected three foals for the 60th Summer Mixed Sales in Vechta on 5 June 2016; amongst them a black colt by Dante Weltino OLD x Quattro B (bred by Ludger Hilgefort) and a black colt by For Romance x De Niro (bred by Dieter Scherwitzki).
From a total of 44 foals presented, no less than 30 received the Oldenburg Foal Premium, including offspring by DLZ stallions First Ampere, For Romance, Rock for Me, Uphill and DLZ star sire Dante Weltino OLD, who made his Grand Prix debut at the 4* CDI Horses and Dreams in Hagen with success.
"Of course we preferred an event in open air but we can't control the April weather flings," DLZ managing director Urs Schweizer stated. "The breeders can be proud though. We saw really typey and very well moving foals here."
Schweizer was especially pleased with the offspring of his own stallions. "It's nice to see how well Dante Weltino OLD, For Romance and Uphill produce. Also our younger stallions, First Ampere and Rock For Me, truly impressed. I have to praise the breeders who made really good matches based on their expertise."
The Oldenburg Foal inspection was the ideal location to market one's foals. Numerous foals switched owners right there at the inspection in Lodbergen.
The next foal show to be held at the DLZ facility at Am Jägereck in Löningen will be on Saturday 18 June 2016, when the 6th Lodbergen Foal Championship takes place. Afterwards on 23 June 2016 the Oldenburg Main Foal Inspection and Branding will be hosted in Lodbergen.
