The Danish combination Lars Petersen and Mariett will not be competing in the 2014 World Cup Finals in Lyon, France, which are set to take place this weekend from 18 - 21 April 2014. The Danish warmblood mare Mariett suffers from a hoof abscess and is not fit to compete.

The Danish Equestrian Federation confirmed to Eurodressage that, "Lars Petersen and Mariett sadly have been withdrawn from the final because of a hoof abscess. No other Danish Rider will replace him."

The Wellington, Florida, based Lars Petersen qualified Marcia Pepper's 16-year old Danish mare Mariett (by Come Back II x Sidney) on the North American World Cup League and was ranked first with the highest score average of all North American based riders.  The pair arrived in Europe on Sunday 13 April 2014.

Mariett has sustained a hoof injury before when she tore off 1/2 of the left front hoof from the coronary band down, but the mare was brought back to fitness with meticulous veterinary care and two years of patience. She went on to shine in the international Grand Prix ring achieving a personal best score of 79.950% in the Kur at the 2014 CDI-W Wellington mid March.

Denmark qualified no less than four riders for the 2014 World Cup Finals. Anna Kasprzak and Lars Petersen have dropped out, Nanna Skodborg Merrald and Mikala Gundersen remain as Danish contenders.
