Dick Brown, Major U.S. Dressage Sponsor, Dies at Age 83

Dick Brown, one of the biggest sponsors on the American dressage scene, has passed away on 5 September 2013 at age 83. The Carlsbad, CA, based Brown lost his seven-year battle against leukemia.

Originally from New York and Connecticut, Dick Brown made his fortune in the jewelry business and after his retirement he developed a keen interest in dressage, riding Jubilee.

When Dick and Jane met Guenter Seidel it was the start of a renowned partnership that help secure the United States multiple medals at the Olympics and World Equestrian Games. Dick and his wife Jane Brown were Seidel's loyal sponsors for 23 years until their partnership ended in 2011.

The Browns acquired all of Seidel's top Grand Prix horses, including Graf George (team bronze 1996 Atlanta Olympics), Foltaire (team bronze 2000 Sydney Olympics), Aragon (team bronze 2004 Athens Olympics, team bronze 2006 World Equestrian Games) and Nikolaus (team silver 2002 World Equestrian Games). Seidel also rode Brown owned horses such as Wolina, UII and Princeton.

The brand new main arena at the USET Headquarters in Gladstone, New Jersey has been named in honour to Dick and Jane Brown. Dick was also the treasurer for the foundation.
