British O-judge Isobel Wessels has committed herself to judging internationally in 2013. Wessels is also highly successful in Great Britain aboard her small tour horse Chagall.

The 62-year old dressage judge and rider, who used to be trained by Carl Hester but removed her horses from his barn to avoid conflict of interest, had to declare her competition intentions for 2013 to the governing body for horse sport, the FEI, by January.

Wessels and the 10-year old Hanoverian gelding Chagall (by Contendro x Graf Grannus x Consul) were one of the unbeatable pairs at small tour level in Great Britain and it was expected that Wessels would introduce Chagall to international shows in 2013.

“In the end, it was not a difficult decision,” Wessels told Horse & Hound. “He has only done five inter I tests and is not established enough to go internationally at grand prix. I have seen enough horses come down the centre line that are not strong enough and I would not do that to my wonderful horse."

Wessels is one of three British 5* judges alongside Stephen Clarke and Andrew Gardner.
