It is with great sadness that British Dressage reported the passing of Maureen Newall. She passed away on the evening of Thursday 28 June, following a short illness.

Maureen was Chief Selector for the Pony team up until 2003. She then continued her involvement in youth dressage in her role of Policy Advisor to the Under-21 selectors. She was also a List 1 judge.

Maureen was extremely well regarded on the dressage scene. In her role as Chief Selector, she worked closely with her colleagues Rachel Hillier and Jenny Ward as well as Chef D’Equipe Islay Auty and Ian Woodhead, Team Trainer. In her subsequent role as Policy Advisor, Maureen continued to be a valuable member of the team and devoted much of her time to encouraging the development of dressage for young riders.

Islay Auty paid tribute to Maureen: ‘She meant so much to so many, as a friend and a mentor. She was loved by everyone who knew her.’

BD Chief Executive Amanda Bond added ‘Maureen was such a loyal, hard-working supporter of British Dressage for so many years; her passing is a great loss to us all.’

All at British Dressage offer our deepest condolences to Maureen’s family and friends.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
