Caroline Bording Smidt, Nanna Skodborg Merrald, and Anna Kasprzak were the winners of the 2010 Ecco Cup Finals held at the Vallensbaek equestrian centre in Vallensbaek, Denmark on 11 - 12 December 2010. The Ecco Cup is a special show circuit in Denmark in which FEI pony riders, junior and young riders can practise kur riding in competition. The qualifiers throughout the year also serve as observation trials for team selection.
Caroline Bording Smidt and PSW Desperado (by Don't Worry x Domingo) won the FEI pony division. On Saturday they won the first round with 70,26% and finished third in the second round (Kur to Music) on Sunday with 71,42%. Her point total was the highest and made her win the 2010 Ecco Cup Finals. Emilie Holm Toft and the bay mare Dreamgirl (by Don't Worry) won the second round with 71,92% but finished second overall. Caroline Aarosin and SL Lucci placed second in the second round with 71,58% but finished third overall.
"I had a very good feeling this weekend, especially Saturday," Bording Smidt told Eurodressage. "Desperado was very obedient and concentrated and we had almost no mistakes in the test. He was very stable and uphill in front. I'm really happy to win this Ecco Cup final."
In the junior riders division Danish European championship junior team bronze medallist Nanna Skodborg Merrald and the dark bay Millibar (by Milan x Liberty Dane) were unbeatable. In the absence of Denmark's E.C. individual silver medal winning junior Cathrine Dufour, Skodborg Merrald freewheeled to the 2010 Ecco Cup title. Kathrine Sumborg Christensen and Elkjaer-Holm's 15 year old gelding Rohmario (by Rohdiamant x Marchenprinz) placed second overall after scoring 70,00% in the kur. Isabella Holtze and the 8-year old Hevi's Futuro (by Future Cup x Diamond) maintained a strong hold on the third spot and finished in bronze position overall.
"Millibar was really great, especially Saturday," said Skodborg Merrald. "The trot was super and the canter was also good. There were no mistakes in that performance. Today he was a bit tense, the trot was very fine, but in the canter he made a few wrong changes. I think he thought it was a Prix st Georges," she joked. "But he still made a lot of good things. He has become much stronger since Kronberg," she added.
Danish European Championship kur bronze medal winning rider Anna Kasprzak finished her young riders' career in style by winning the 2010 Ecco Cup Finals for young riders. Aboard her talented Danish warmblood mare Donna Fetti (by Don Schufro) Kasprzak won the first and second round with 70% marks. With a kur score of 72,50% Kasprzak left no doubt about her supremacy. Simone Ahlers Pedersen and Cavaler finished second with a 67.75% earning freestyle. Carina Nevermann Torup and the dark bay Kafelnikov placed third with 66,83%.
In the Under 25 class for upcoming Grand Prix riders Anne Bendix and her grey Capuccino D booked two victories in a row and claiming the 2010 Ecco Cup title. In the FEI pony division for smaller ponies (Category 2) Emilie Holm Toft reigned supreme with Golden Starlight.
