2009 Ecco Cup Finals

The 2009 Ecco Cup circuit in Denmark came to a close last weekend with a big finale held at the Vallensbaek Equestrian Centre. Anne Fabricius Tange, Nanna Skodborg Merrald, Anna Kathrine Elkjaer Holm and Anna Kasprzak were the grand champions of the 2009 Ecco Cup Finals.

This year's Ecco Cup was slightly different from the years before with one additional class added to its usual range. The circuit included an "Under 25" competition at Intermediaire 2-Grand Prix level for young riders below the age of 25. Winner of the 2009 U25 Finals was Anna Kasprzak, daughter of Ecco founder Hanni Toosbuy Kasprzak. Aboard Select Ecco (by Sandro Hit), Anna finished third in the first round with 66,75% but aced the second round with 65,53% to total 132,28 points. Annemette Summers Mortensen became reserve champion on Mitchell Imhoff, a 14-year old Danish warmblood by Michellino. She totalled 131,53 points.

At FEI Pony Level Anne Fabricius Tanghe was unbeatable aboard her chestnut gelding Tim. She received a staggering 73,16% in the first round and 75,50% for her Kur from the panel of judges. The runner up, Rikke Lindberg on the 18-year old Brooklands Moonwalker, scored four percent less in total, still with scores over 70%.

Brand new junior rider Nanna Skodborg Merrald, who made the transition from ponies to horses this year, won the Ecco Cup Finals with her young Danish warmblood gelding Millibar (by Milan). Trained by Michael Sogaard, Merrald scored 70,44% and 71,50%. She felt tough competition from reserve champion Simone Ahlers Pedersen on the 11-year old Danish gelding Cavaler (by Blue Hors Cavan). Denmark's strongest performing junior of the season, Cathrine Dufour, dealt with an extremely spooky Cadillac in the first round and did not compete on the second day.

The Kur to Music decided the winner in the Young Riders' division. Anne Kathrine Elkjaer Holm and her gorgeous chestnut stallion Bernstein (by Banditentraum) ranked second in round 1 (67,11%) and dominated the Kur with 73,25%. Elkjaer Holm, who is training with Dolf Dietram Keller, achieved a total of 140,36, which was merely 0,46 percentage points ahead of Anna Kasprzak on her new small tour horse Miami (by Milan).
