Holsteiner Breeding News

The bay Larcon (by Larimar x Contender) became the champion of the 2010 Holsteiner Stallion Licensing held at the Holstenhalle in Neumünster, Germany.

In an attempt to move away from in-breeding through the over-used C line, the Holsteiner Licensing committee deliberately chose for an L-line stallion as champion. Even though to many Larcon was not the best jumping stallion in the collection, nor the most correct conformation-wise despite his modern outlook, Holsteiner wanted to make a statement by choosing for L-blood to advise breeders to diversify the genes more.

Larcon is bred by Georg Clausen from Rabenkirchen and was not offered for sale at auction. He'll stand at stud through the Holsteiner Verband. Lyjanero (by Landos x Casall x Carthago) was proclaimed reserve champion. He's bred by August Bartjen and owned by Gestut Sprehe.

Seven stallions were invited to the premium ring:

  • Cilian (by Canto x Coriander)
  • Conrato (by Caretino x Quinar)
  • Castelan II (by Casiro I x Sandro)
  • Casskeni II (by Cassini II x Chamonix)
  • Carthano II (by Contender x Carthago)
  • Lyjanero (by Landos x Casall)
  • Larcon (by Larimar x Contender)

With absolutely no policy to promote the breeding of dressage horses within the Holsteiner society, it was no surprise that only one licensed dressage stallion in the lot, Laurano, got accepted. The Lauries Crusador xx x Aljano offspring is owned by Joop van Uytert.

The most expensive stallion at auction was Commodo (by Cristo x Quick Star x Ramiro) which sold for 120,000 euro to South Africa.
