The Varsseveld based Sanne Gilbers won the final Imperial Riding Cup qualifier of the season. At the last selection trial in Aerdenhout before the Finals, Gilbers easily rode to victory in the absence of all but one Dutch A-team pony riders.
Aboard the German Reitpony stallion Harry Potter (by Halifax), Gilbers scored a strong 69,35% to win in a field of 29 competitors. Judges Herman Smit, Willemien Blanken and Dirk de Haas placed the 14-year old Julia van Schaijk on Den Ostriks Dailan (by Leunsveld Lord) second with 68,98%. Van Schaijk rode her second pony Vitell W (by Vita Nova’s Hannassie) slotted in fourth with her German bred pony Hoby (by Hasko). They scored 67,04%.
However, Gilbers did not qualify for the 2009 Imperial Riding Cup Finals in Almelo on June 28, 2009, because she did not compete at the required four selection trials. Currently in the lead in the final ranking for the finals is Antoinette te Riele on Danny Boy B.
Twelve riders in total qualified for the finals, three received a wild card and those are Te Riele with her second pony Golden Girl, Dana van Lierop with her second pony Wengelo's Ricardo and Rosalie Mol on Hamahr du Bois. The wild cards were attributed by Dutch pony chef d'equipe Christa Laarakkers, who has attended the Imperial Cup shows which serve as Dutch qualification events for the 2009 European Pony Championships.
The Finals take place in Almerlo. The 15 finallists ride the team championship test at 10 AM and the six highest ranked riders are allowed to ride the kur to music in the afternoon (14h30) for the title.
