The British World Class Programme introduced an Equine Pathway (in partnership with the British Equestrian Federation Olympic Member Bodies) during 2006/2007 to sit alongside the human development pathway.
The programme provides a method of identifying and providing support through training to elite young horses that show an indication of the necessary qualities to represent Great Britain and ideally medal at future Championships and Olympic Games.
Funded by UK Sport the Programme will work together with riders and owners of selected horses in order to help them maximise their horse's potential with the aim to have horses qualified to compete and challenge for medals at the 2014 World Equestrian Games, the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio and the 2018 World Equestrian Games. It is also hoped that the Programme will encourage owners to keep their horses with British riders, which will further enhance Team GBR chances.
Applications are now invited from owners who consider their horse is showing the potential to reach this top class level. Horses must be aged between 6 and 10 years old in 2012.
Details of the objectives, benefits and criteria of the Programme, the assessment process and an application form can be obtained from January Roberts at British Dressage on 02476 698835 or January.roberts@britishdressage.co.uk
First stage of the application process will close on 10 April 2012 and will require a completed application form and a DVD of no longer than 5 minutes total viewing showing the movements as defined in the document available from January Roberts. The DVD will not be returned.
