Julia Chevanne, 2007 French Dressage Champion

November 12, 2007

Julia ChevanneLast weekend, Julia Chevanne became the 2007 French Grand Prix Dressage Champion at the French national championships in Saumur, France, November 2-4, 2007. Aboard her Hanoverian gelding Calimucho (by Cavalier), Chevanne won the final Grand Prix kur to music with 73.60% and claimed the overall title in the championship.

Chevanne, who was already the 2003 French Dressage Champion, was ecstatic about her victory. After two seasons of injuries, her horse Calimucho is back to the big time and ready to be back in the international spotlight. "I'm very happy to take home this title again with 'Cali'. He's improving with age which enables me to enjoy competition more and more and to profit from these moments," Chevanne told the French magazine L'Eperon.

Hubert Perring and the Selle Francais bred chestnut Diabolo St Maurice (by Plein d'Espoir) became the reserve champions, just like in 2006. They won the Grand Prix Special with 67.76% and were in the lead, but mistakes in the canter pirouettes in his freestyle put them in silver medal position.

Remy Issartel and Hilton du Clotobie, a Selle Francais by Ulahk du Chateau, claimed the bronze. Fifth in the Grand Prix and third in the Special and Kur to Music, Issartel exceeded his own expectations and became the revelation of the show. A student of Marina Van den Berghe, Issartel and his partner Karina Zapella both are amateurs who devote all their time to their passion: dressage.

At small tour level, Dominique Brieussel took highest honours with the Weltmeyer offspring Wisdom, who was already the 4-year old French Young Horse Champion. The 20-year old Antoine Lion earned the silver medal with Concerto (by Florestan) which he purchased from Fabien Godelle as a 5-year old. Trained by Serge Cornut, Lion is a sophomore in pharmaceuticals. Betrand Lebarbier and the Selle Francais Jordy de la Rose (by Qredo de Paulstra) won the bronze.
