Following in the footsteps of the KWPN, the breeding department of the German equestrian federation has also decided to allow young approved - but untested - colts to breed this 2020 season because of the corona pandemic.

Because the scheduled 2020 spring stallion performance and sport tests have been cancelled due to the corona virus, the German FN breeding department has decided to temporarily submit recently approved stallions in the Stud Book I for 2020.

"We have never been in such a situation in history. That is why we have to jump over our own shadow and be generous," said Theo Leuchten, chair of the breeding department at the German Equestrian Federation (FN).

This temporary measure does not mean the colts are exempted from a performance test. They will still need to do it at a later point, or pass it in sport through the Bundeschampionate.

The new measure implies:

Specifically, this means:

  • Temporary registration of 3-year-old stallions without participation in a 14-day test in Studbook I for the breeding season 2020. In 2021, these stallions must either participate in the  50-day stallion performance test or in a 14-day suitability test in summer / autumn 2020 or in the spring of 2021 as well as the sport test for stallions part I in spring 2021.

  • Temporary entry of 4-year-old licensed stallions, who already have a score from the a 14-day test or a sport test, in Studbook I, but without participation in a sports test for stallions in Studbook I or 14-day test in the Stallion Book I for the breeding season 2020.

In 2021 these stallions must perform in the 50-day stallion performance test or Sport Test for stallions part II in 2021 with two results. If the 14-day has not yet been completed with the result, this must also be achieved.

  • Temporary entry of 5-year-old licensed stallions with results from a 14-day test and from a sport test in Studbook I for the breeding season 2020, even if they have not participated in a sport test for stallions part II.

In 2021, these stallions have to have qualified for the 2020 Bundeschampionate or completed a 50-day stallion performance test in autumn 2020 or in spring 2021. Alternatively, stallions can also prove their participation in a Sport Test Part II for 6-year-old stallions, which will be held in 2021.
