Danish based Norwegian dressage rider Trude Hestengen has put down her rising Grand Prix horse Strandagergårds Deluxe on 20 November 2019. The horse was 8 years old

Strandagergårds Deluxe was a Danish warmblood gelding by De Noir out of Shania Gravvaenge (by Sam Sam x Sorel). He was bred by  Jens Jørgen and Anette Abildskov.

Trude purchased the liver chestnut at the auction of the 2014 Danish Warmblood Stallion Licensing in Herning, after he was rejected in the licensing as a breeding stallion.

In 2015 he qualified for the Danish Warmblood Young horse championship in Herning, where he finished 11th. In 2016 he qualified for the semi-final of the Danish Young Horse Championships.

In 2017 Deluxe won the Dressage-Derby for 6-year old horses in Norway and qualified for Falsterbo Horse Show. In 2018 Deluxe won the Dressage-Derby in Norway again, this time for 7-year old horses. He also won the Norwegian Indoor Championship for 7-year old horses.

Strandagergårds Deluxe injured himself on Christmas Day 2018, knocking himself when he spooked from a plastic bag that flew in the wind on his way to the paddock. The knock caused a splint in the cannon bone. The chip was removed but during the operation a lymphatic vessel got damaged and caused the horse have a swollen leg since then.

"He underwent surgery twice and got back into training, but both times he went lame again after a while," Trude told Hestesport. "His leg only got worse and worse the past few months and we tried all treatment. He has been shown to veterinarians in Denmark, Sweden and Germany, so we really felt that we couldn't do anything more. It was the right decision to let him go."

Trude added that they also tried laser treatment and that recent X-rays showed changes to the bone because it became less mobile due to the swelling.

"It is incredibly sad to lose a friend you have had for so many years," said Trude, who has not competed internationally since riding Tobajo Pik Disney at the 2015 CDIO Aachen. "Deluxe was a wonderful horse and we had great expectations for him. He had such a great personality, he will be missed in the stable."

Deluxe was schooling all the Grand Prix level movements.
