Children's rider Julia Hessel Ferrer, junior rider Natalia Bacariza Danguillecourt, young rider Alba Abollo Fontela and under 25 Grand Prix rider Diego Martinez del Moral became the winners of the 2018 Spanish Youth Riders Championships held at Amtuna  Centro Ecuestre de Castilla y León  in Segovia, Spain, on 5 - 9 September 2018.

No less than forty-three combinations competed in the Children's division, a category highly popular in Spain in the absence of enough ponies in the country. Julia Hessel Ferrer and the 12-year old KWPN bred Artemisia (by ) was the undoubted champion with a 7% lead in the overall standing to the silver medalist. The pair scored a winning 70.462% in the preliminary test, was second in the team test with 71.308% and won the individual test with 72.393%. Sofia del Olmo Bak and the 14-year old New Forest Pony Sophienhof's Maroon (by Marok) scored silver with 67.192%, 71.769% and 68.821%. Alvaro Perdomo Duque and the 9-year old Oldenburg bred Sir Medano (by Sir Donnerhall) got bronze after posting 69.538%, 68.654% and 68.679%.

The junior podium: Moron, Bacariza, Guerrero
In the junior riders' division, Wellington based Natalia Bacariza Danguillecourt and her 11-year old Hanoverian Dhannie (by Don Crusador) were undefeated in Segovia and claimed her first national title. Coached by Juan Matute Sr, the pair scored 71.818% in the team test, 72.912% in the individual test and 77.300% in the Kur to Music. They stayed almost five percent ahead in the freestyle from the rest of the competition with their highly technical floorplan. European Championship team mate Sergio Moron Basoco and the 8-year old Danish bred Farnham L (by Furst Rousseau x Hohenstein), a horse the rider sourced in Denmark at Helgstrand Dressage less than two years ago, landed silver. The combination scored 70.606%; 70.382% and 73.790%. Maria Guerrero Galve and the 7-year old KWPN bred Gustaaf (by Charmeur) slotted in third overall for bronze with 68.788%, 70.382% and 73.140%. The pair is trained by the Barcelona based Swedish Grand Prix rider Linda Swande.

The Young rider podium: De Las Cuevas, Abollo, Gonzalez
Twenty-four pairs competed in the young riders' class and the 19-year old Spanish team rider Alba Abollo Fontela and her 8-year old KWPN bred Elvillar CS (by Negro) scored a hattrick for the title with three winning rounds. They posted 73.382% in the team test, 72.618% in the individual and 77.000% in the Kur. Abollo has been coached the past 12 years by Alberto Garcia. Carla de la Fuente de Pablos and the 11-year old Hanoverian Fay (by Fidertanz) grabbed the silver with 70.882%, 70.706% and 74.00%. Juan Jose Gonzalez de la Cuevas PImienta and the 8-year old Oldenbrug bred Denksport (by De Niro x Rubinstein) finished on the bronze medal step of the podium with 70.882%, 70.118% and 72.750%. The combination is trained by Victor Alvarez and Maya Pou at the CAVA centre in Girona. In October Gonzalez and Denksport will travel to the Oldenburg headquarters in Vechta, Germany, where Denksport will be honoured by being submitted to the OLD promotion team.

The U25 podium: Diaz, Martinez, Insa
The Spanish Under 25 group is still quite modest with just six pairs at the Nationals but the enthusiasm to make the transition from Young Riders level to Grand Prix is great. Diego Martinez del Moral and the 10-year old Hanoverian For Olimpic Games (by First Dance) slowly built up an advantage over three rounds to finish at the top of the podium with the gold medal and title on 203.899 points. The combination got 66.706% in the Intermediaire II, 67.333% in the short Grand Prix and 69.860% in the Kur to Music. Arturo Diaz Mellado and the 9-year old Spanish sport horse bred OVD Karin (by First Game) got silver with 66.794% in the Intermediaire II. They dropped to 62.538% in the short Grand Prix but recovered in the Kur with 67.975%. Lara Insa Alcarez and the 16-year old Hanoverian Don Diago (by Don Frederico) finished with bronze on 63.735%, 62.436% and 66.375%.
