Dutch team rider Hans Peter Minderhoud and his WEG team hopeful Dream Boy topped the Grand Prix 3* class at the 2018 CDIO Compiègne in France on Friday 18 May 2018. In a field of 34 international competitors, Minderhoud made it count and scored a winning 71.457%

The 2018 edition of the CDIO Compiègne was blessed with the most gorgeous, sunny spring weather. Set in the beautiful equestrian park of Compiègne city, one hour north of Paris, the conditions for competition were perfect. The 3* Grand Prix was judged by a very experienced panel including three 5* judges: Riexinger, Colliander, Alonso, Du Tranoy and Ringmark.

Hans Peter and Gaston Glock's 10-year old licensed Dutch warmblood stallion Dream Boy (by Vivaldi x Ferro) put in an energetic ride in which the stallion's willingness to work stood out. The trot extensions were nice, there was much ground cover in the half passes but in the lateral movement both in trot and canter the horse swooshed the tail much. Dream Boy was much better in the contact compared to his debut in Joosland. The stallion shows good ability to collect and sit in the piaffe but the young one still leans on the forehand. The extended walk was good, but in the collected he became lateral. The two tempi's swayed, the ones were straighter but the changes to the left significantly shorter. Dream Boy has all the potential to develop into a beautiful Grand Prix horse but the power and self carriage are still frail at the moment. They scored 71.457% for the victory.

Team mate Adelinde Cornelissen scratched her number one Aqiedo for the nations' cup leg, and showed her 14-year old home bred KWPN gelding Zephyr (by Jazz x Farmer) in the 3* leg. The athlethic bay gelding scored in the half passes and small pirouettes (though the right one was hasty), but he did not fully stretch in the extended walk and Zephyr's weak point remains to be the piaffe, in which he crosses in front. Still, Cornelissen made her mileage as a competition and accurate test rider count and scored 70.652% for second place.

Jeroen Devroe on Hyrano
The first starters of the day, Belgian Jeroen Devroe on his brand new Grand Prix horse Hyrano, landed third place. Devroe's 11-year old Belgian warmblood stallion (by First Junior x Weltgeist) was obedient and listening to his rider. He covered good ground in the trot and canter extensions and is smooth in passage, but the green Grand Prix ride still needs to develop more strength and push from behind to wow in piaffe and passage. They received a 68.630% Grand Prix CDI debut score.

Italian Riccardo Sanavio is on a WEG campaign aboard Gaston Glock's 14-year old Westfalian mare Federleicht (by Furst Piccolo x Ferragamo). The dark bay mare is a very elegant, feminine looking horse which moves with much grace and style, but overall she was rushed and hurried throughout the test. With a bit more relaxation and self carriage, the score could climb higher. They got 68.630% for fourth place.

French Anne Sophie Serre completed the top five aboard Sylvain Massa's 9-year old Lusitano stallion Vistoso de Massa (by Maestro x Xaquiro). The grey showed off his good potential for piaffe and passage and keeps a lovely classical, correct frame in piaffe. They posted 68.413% for fifth place.
