What's Happening in the Dressage World?

2008 U.S. Olympic team rider Courtney King-Dye has given birth to a baby girl on 20 February 2014. The news that Courtney and her husband Jason Dye became parents was announced today at the 2014 CDIO Wellington.

Courtney was due to give birth 24 February but the baby arrived four days sooner. She gave birth to an 8 lb 4 oz girl at 3pm on 20 February 2014 and she has been named River Madison Dye.

In March 2010 King's career as an international Grand Prix rider abruptly ended when she suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury falling off her horse. She spent 4 weeks in a coma and 3 months in in-patient rehabilitation re-learning how to walk and talk.

A few days before her delivery, King-Dye wrote the following: "I continue to have a very easy pregnancy. The circulation in my right side doesn't work properly so I have one enormous foot and kankle, but other than that I could still easily forget I'm pregnant... when I'm sitting, standing has become quite the ordeal! The plan was to induce me the week before my due date to make everything as prepared as possible. I can't have an epidural because of the placement of my pump and if they need to do a c-section, they need to put me all the way out, so she wanted to have the staff and equipment all scheduled and ready. But then my neurologist said I'm a seizure risk and extra straining or a long labor causing fatigue will greatly increase the risk. So she's going to let my body tell us when it's ready as if she induced me, it may take a long time. Little Miss is head down and ready to emerge!"
