California Dressage Riders Get Ready for the 2013 CDI Show Season
The California spring CDI calendar has a tradition of spectacular dressage competition and 2013 will be no exception. Riders' sights are already set on the 2014 World Equestrian Games (WEG) in France, making this year critical towards strengthening performances and debuting exciting new mounts.
With spectacular facilities, world-renowned judging panels, and competitor-friendly amenities, riders know that several of the California based CDI shows provide their best opportunity for show-ring success.
This year, three premier events, organized by Cornerstone Event Management, return to the international dressage calendar as CDI competitions, showcasing some of the best High Performance competitors in the nation. WEG hopefuls expected to compete include Steffen Peters with up-and-coming superstar Legolas (by Laomedon x Florestan II); Guenter Seidel with new mount Coral Reef Wylea (by Weinberg); perennial crowd favorites, Jan Ebeling with long-time international partner Rafalca (by Argentinus x Rubinstein); and young star Adrienne Lyle and Wizard (by Weltmeyer x Classiker), who are looking to return to the U.S.A. Dressage Team for another international championship.
In anticipation of the first of these exciting events, the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank is already being prepared to kick off the spring season with the Mid-Winter Dressage Fair CDI3*/Y/J, scheduled for February 22 - 24. Horses and riders will then enjoy the beautiful atmosphere and fantastic footing at Oaks Blenheim in San Juan Capistrano for the Festival of the Horse CDI 3*/Y/J, March 27 - 30. Finally, exhibitors and spectators alike will celebrate Memorial Day weekend May 23 - 26 at the pastoral and historic Flintridge Riding Club in La Cañada-Flintridge for CDI 1*/Y/J competition as well as the return of the U.S. Young Horse Dressage Western Selection Trial for the World Young Horse Championships.
All three CDI's are also official qualifiers for a multitude of national awards and championship programs, including the US Dressage Championships; the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC); the 2013 U.S. Young Horse and Developing Horse National Dressage Championships; the Young Talent Search Finals; USDF year-end awards and regional championships; and California Dressage Society (CDS) Horse of the Year awards and annual championship show.
In addition to another season of international-level dressage, Cornerstone Event Management is proud to announce their innovative "Rider Rewards" program. Through agreement with partners such as host hotel Marriott Courtyard Burbank Airport as well as US Horse Feed & Shavings, competitors participating in Cornerstone dressage events will have an opportunity to earn unique rewards for their patronage. "This year, we wanted to take a fresh approach to expand our services and show our sincere appreciation for the riders and owners who attend our shows," explained Glenda McElroy, event organizer. "We are happy to be able to give back to our competitors who give so much of their time, energy, devotion, and money to support this sport we love."
