Forty-four rising three-year old colts have been accepted for the stallion performance test at the 2024 KWPN Stallion Licensing in 's Hertogenbosch.

The 2024 KWPN stallion licensing kicked off on Wednesday 31 January with two days of licensing of show jumping colts. The group of dressage colts were presented to the committee on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 February.

Forty-Six in Total

On day one 25 of them were accepted, on day two 19 more colts got the green light. Two older stallions, Vaderland and Everest, were also accepted.

"We accepted a bunch of very complete stallions and also when it comes to bloodlines and variation in it. That's why have reason to look forward to the performance test with much confidence," said Bart Bax, chair of the stallion licensing committee. "The benchmark we applied in the first phase we maintained here in Den Bosch and that's how we came to the nice total of 46 stallions. We don't lead by numbers but this is a nice sign of good quality in breadth."

One stallion owner ruled the entire roost: Gert-Jan van Olst. He (co-)owns no less than 10 of the licensed colts! But also owners' duo Peter Wetzelaer and L. Bos, as well as stallion keeper Joop van Uytert, both had four colts approved.

Five Premium Colts

On day one two colts were named premium and on day two three more got this highly coveted distinction. In particular the crop of sire Lantanas stood out with three colts presented and all three of them approved.

Van Olst scored big time with his Lantanas (by Sir Donnerhall x Hemmingway) offspring as 100% of them (all three) were accepted. Rumble VDK (by Lantanas x Negro) was named premium. Van Olst also had a second premium stallion, Rayano (by Glamourdale x Cum Laude).

Van Uytert saw two of his colts become premium: Rohan (by Jameson x Easy Game) and Rome USB (by Vaderland x Zambuka).

The Dutch based British breeder and horse dealer Rebecca Dudley saw her Rockstar Millionaire (by D'Avie x Sandro Hit) become premium. She co-owns the horse with Yvon Kaptain and MT stables.

Rayano, Price Highlight of the KWPN Select Sale

A collection of 26 dressage bred colts was auctioned by Frederik de Backer in the KWPN Select Sale, nine of them were licensed.

Premium stallion Rayano became the price highlight, selling for 130,000 euro. He sold to dressage rider Kim van de Muren and her husband Stephan Hirdes.

The second most expensive one was Roebel (by Romanov x Sir Donnerhall) who sold for 85,000 euro.

Ribery VDT (by Don Juan de Hus x Ferro) went for 68,000 euro, Rishano Fornaio (by Kjento x Rousseau) for 67,000 euro, and Renoir (by Le Formidable x Zack) fetched 64,000 euro. Risky Business (by Koning x Desperado) and Raf KL (by Vaderland x Ferdeaux) sold for 40,000 euro and Romeo (by Lantanas x Jazz) for 38,000 euro.

The most expensive non-licensed stallion was Rambo Exclusive V (by TOto Jr x Apache) who sold for 58,000 euro. The non-licensed Racoon (by Kjento x Governor) fetched 44,000 euro. Two non licensed colts sold for 40,000 euro and there were two: Romario VDT (by Dante Weltino x Ferro) and Rebound (by Furst Dior x Easy Game). The non-licensed Romano (by Kjento x Furst Heinrich) sold for 38,000 euro.
