The team silver medal winning Dutch team pony Brouwershaven Uthopia II has been sold to France.

Brouwershaven Uthopia II is a 9-year old Dutch Welsh pony by Metall out of Brouwershaven's Loesje (by Vita Nova's Hanassie). He is bred by Brouwer.

From Naughty Pony to Team Silver

Dutch pony rider Sita Hopman began riding the tall bay gelding for horse dealer Renate Langeberg as the youngster was too difficult and sensitive for novice children. The gelding was alway bolting and proved to be a handful at the start, but Hopman connected with the pony and Sita's mom Liesbeth Spoor purchased him.

Hopman began her international show career on her Uthopia at the CDI Nieuw en St. Joosland in April 2019, where they scored between 62 and 66%. Six months later at the 2019 CDI Exloo, the scores round to 68 and 69%.

In 2020 the pair took a decent start at the CDI Le Mans in February right before the corona pandemic and during the lockdown she began intensively training with Adelinde Cornelissen. The duo was selected for the Dutch team for the 2020 European Pony Championships in Hungary.

The combination almost got sent back home at the start of the Europeans, when Uthopia did not measure in as a pony at the horse inspection. However upon re-measurement he was accepted. The pair then rose to the occasion and won team silver after scoring 72.866%, no less than 6% above her personal best mark in the team test. In the individual test they were 11th with 72.648% and in the Kur to Music they finished 10th with 74.930%.

Sold to France

With Sita having achieved the age limit, Uthopia has been sold to the Swiss based French pony rider Valentine Bineau.

The 12-year old Bineau made her international show debut this year on pony Osbourne, a 16-year old German Riding Pony by Othello x Benetton S.

Osbourne is a familiar face on the French pony scene having competed at the European Pony Championships no less than 5 times: in 2014 and 2015 with Mathilde Thevenot, in 2016 and 2017 and 2019 with Aurore Thevenot.

Bineau trains with Morgan Barbançon.
