The public has voted and named Johnson as KWPN Horse of the Year 2019. He will be honoured as such at the 2020 KWPN Stallion Licensing on 31 January 2020.
With 3,831 votes, Johnson (by Jazz) got the most votes by far. Three dressage stallions out of a group of six were in the running for the title. His dressage rivals were Blue Hors Zack (by Rousseau) and Zaire E (by Son de Niro).
Last year Johnson was already celebrated in the 2019 KWPN Stallion Show for his retirement from sport, this year he'll return for the HOY title.
Johnson has quite the honour's list: licensing champion, stallion competition winner, reserve champion in the Pavo Cup, small tour success, winner of team bronze at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Caen, winner of team gold and individual bronze at the 2015 European Championships in Aachen, and he was a Kur finalist at the Rio Olympics.
Owned by Gaston Glock and Team Nijhof, Johnson was all this time ridden by Hans Peter Minderhoud.
He has also proven his value in breeding. Johnson ranks second on the 2019 WBFSH Dressage Sire Ranking. His successful offspring includes Hexagon’s Double Dutch (Thamar Zweistra), Meggle’s Boston (Matthias Bouten), Eddieni (Malin Nilsson), Ben Johnson (Marlies van Baalen), Bolero (Morgan Barbancon), Don John (Nick Wagman), etc.
In the voting for the 2019 HOY title, Blue Hors Zack was again second with 1,323 votes and Zaïre-E third with 1,227 votes. Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve followed with 667 votes, then Explosion W with 622 votes and the KWPN Horse of the Year 2018, Verdi, got 451 votes.
