Charlott Maria Schürmann and her number one Grand Prix horse Burlington will not be seen in the show ring that often anymore. The rider has announced a reduced show schedule for her 16-year old stallion and him standing at stud.

Burlington is a 2003 born Hanoverian stallion by Breitling W out of Romina (by Rohdiamant). He is bred by Hans-Heinrich Oltman.

Schurmann and Burlington won team gold and individual silver at the 2012 European Young Riders Championships in Berne. They won the 2012 Nurnberger Burgpokal and the 2014 Piaff Forderpreis. In 2014 they made their debut at international Grand Prix level.

The stallion has not competed internationally for a year and a half, his last show being the CDI Hagen in April 2018. The pair has done several national Grand Prix tests in Germany this year. Their last start was in Nurnberg at the beginning of November.

The soon to be 17-year old will not yet be retired from sport though, but will be put on a lighter show schedule whilst standing at stud.

"I will still compete him but only a few shows," Schürmann told Eurodressage.

"We were approached again and again by the breeders, because Burlington is highly interesting not only because of his performance but also because of his pedigree," Schürmann further explained. "Burlington is now turning 17, he is in top form, but for sport he will be used a bit less. So he's ready for his breeding season."

Burlington is the last son by Breitling that was licensed for breeding. He briefly stood at stud as a youngster and has 16 offspring registered for sport with the German equestrian federation, amongst them the licensed stallion Bodyguard, who finished fourth in the 2017 Nurnberger Burgpokal under Matthias Bouten.
