The 64-year old German Grand Prix rider and dressage horse trainer Jochen Vetters has been named Riding Master (reitmeister).

The Berlin based rider was honoured with the title at the Hippologica event in Berlin at the end of January.

Vetters began his career as an eventing rider and was multiple German junior eventing champion. He then switched to Dressage and was the East German dressage champion three times. He qualified for the 1990 World Equestrian Games.

Aboard Fanano, Vetters made it to the German B-squad from 2006 til 2009. He was also the Berlin-Brandenburg regional team trainer from 2001 till 2012.

Vetters runs his private dressage yard "Pferdehof Neubeeren" with his wife.

The title of Riding Master is bestowed by the German Equestrian Federation to riders for their lifetime achievements to the sport. Germany has 26 riding masters still alive. Wolfram Wittig was the previous recipient of the title in December 2018.
