The 5-year old MDM Zodiac OLD and the 6-year old Riptide became the winners of the Bundeschampionate qualification classes held at the regional show in Bremen, Germany, on 5 May 2018.
The 5-year old division was judged by Alyona Bilan, Dierk Groth and Sabine Meyer zu Erbe. Thirty-six horses were originally entered but 17 appeared at the starting line. David Taylor and Max and Doris Matti's Oldenburg stallion MDM Zodiac (by Zonik x Donnerschwee) scored a stellar 9.1 to be the clear winner in the L-level dressage horse test. However, Rieke Schnieder was right on their heels aboard Gerd Sosath's Hanoverian stallion Devonport (by Dancier x Ravallo) with a 9.0 total score. Schnieder also placed third with Gerd Sosath's Rhinelander stallion For Dance (by For Romance x Rubiloh) with 8.4.
Nineteen horses were originally entered for the 6-year old M-level test and 13 showed up. Judges Dierk Groth, Marret Maucher and Alyona Bilan preferred Kira Ripphoff's ride on Mathis Goerens' Westfalian stallion Riptide (by Rock Forever x Show Star). They rewarded the pair a winning 8.5 points. Wolfhard Witte placed second on Celle state stud's Hanoverian stallions Emilio (by Estobar x Don Crusador) with 8.1. Two combinations tied in third place with an 8.0 score: Wolfhard Witte on Celle's Don Romanov (by Don Schuyfro x Romanov) and Hof Kasselmann's bereiter Alexa Westendarp on Mirelle van Kemenade-Witlox' Westfalian stallion Belmore (by Belissimo M x Fidertanz).
