The Degree of Difficulty (DOD) Freestyle system will be used for the Dressage Freestyle Test at the 2018 World Equestrian Games 2018 in Tryon.

The FEI Bureau has approved and supported this decision and recommendation of the Dressage Technical Committee having listened to requests from Athletes and Officials. In addition, this system creates more opportunity for commentary and excitement during the Competition and has been a great success in the two FEI World Cup™ seasons it has been used in so far.

Since 1 January 2018, all CDIs have the possibility to use the system for the Freestyle. Notes for guidance, as well as support, are available to everyone, including Athletes and Officials.

"We look forward to this positive step forward in the discipline and hope this will be another milestone to build excitement and engagement in Dressage at Championships," said Lucinda Arsenio of the FEI Liaison Office.
