Saskia and Jacques Lemmens of RS2 Dressage have purchased the 14-year old Dutch Grand Prix horse Zingaro Apple to secure the ride on the gelding for their assistant trainer Marieke van der Putten.

This is the second Grand Prix horse that RS2 Dressage has bought for Van der Putten. In February they also paid a huge amount for the U.S. bred rising Grand Prix horse Her Majesty, which had only done one Grand Prix test (76.7%) at a local show in Wellington, Florida, before selling to Holland.

Marieke van der Putten made her international Grand Prix debut on Zingaro Apple (by Painted Black x Renevo) at the 2017 CDI Roosendaal in June last year. The bright bay gelding with its harness horse background has tremendous talent for piaffe and passage, but the gelding still struggles to keep the lid on the cooker.

Zingaro Apple's previous owners, Nico and Simone Maaswaal, moved the horse along with Van der Putten when she quit her job at Edward Gal/Hans Peter Minderhoud's yard and relocated to RS2 Dressage. Since then she has showed him in Rotterdam, Aachen and Mechelen, scoring in the mid 60s.

"He's a sensitive horse with a lot of quality, which he has proven with his steady rider Marieke," said Robin van Lierop who manages RS2 Dressage for the Lemmens couple. "She knows 'Karel' like no other and we are very happy that they can continue to grow in the sport together."

Van der Putten cannot believe her luch. "It's one special moment after the other. Zingaro Apple is a very special horse to me. I've spent so much time and effort to gain his trust and it's fantastic to know that I can keep on doing that," said Van der Putten.
