Swedish Grand Prix rider Josefin Gyllensward has injured herself in a riding accident at her yard in the United Kingdom on 11 March 2018. She is not allowed to ride for at least six weeks.

"Today was one of the less good days with horses," Josefin wrote on Instagram. "I had an unfortunate fall schooling a clients horse and I have fractured my spine...it was a lucky break and I’m now hoping for a quick recovery aiming to be back in the saddle in 6 weeks, resting starts now!"

The 25-year old Gyllensward fell off a client's horse and landed badly on her back. She landed poorly on the side of her back and hurt herself.

An ambulance came to the scene and brought Josefin to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a fractured her L1 vertebrae.  Because of the "fortunate" position of the fracture, she will not have to wear a brace, but just stay very quiet for the next six weeks.

"The doctor said that if you break your back, that is the best place to break it," Gyllensward told Ridsport. "I need to rest for 10 days to two weeks and then I can start driving a car before I gradually increase my mobility."

Gyllensward needs to stay out of the saddle for at least 6 weeks. She hopes to be recovered in time for the CDI Windsor in May.
