Swedish Warmblood Breeding News

Swedish warmblood breeder Ann Westling has passed away. Together with her husband Karl Johan Persson, Westling was the founder of Stuteri Stubbang in Skane, Sweden.

The couple bred numerous successful dressage horses and were an influence on several boards that helped develop Swedish warmblood breeding. She also served as the chef d'equipe for Sweden at the World Young Horse Championships.

Westling bred, for instance, the mare Wennica (by Longchamp x Warkant), who finished 12th in the Finals at the 2007 World Young Horse Championships under Pernilla André Hokfelt. They were 9th in the consolation finals at the 2008 World Championships. Gazella (by Don Primero x Grundsee) won the Scandinavian Open at the 2011 CDI Falsterbo. Bernice (by Bernstein x Cyrano) competed at international Young Riders level with Madeleine Lorichs.

Together with Kerstin Andre and Birgitta Kjellin, Westling was a partner in Wladimir OA (by Flemmingh x Florestan), who was approved for breeding, but gelded to be focused on sport. The bay is now competing at international Grand Prix level under Australian Simone Pearce.

Westling passed away after a long period of illness. She was 62 years old.
