A major blow for Hanoverian dressage horse breeding: the Celle state stud owned Dancier has passed away after a severe colic attack. Despite an operation the 15-year old stallion could not be saved.

Dr. Alex Brockmann, Celle stud manager, told St. Georg that during the evening feeding session, grooms discovered Dancier with colic signs in his stall. The stallion was immediately transported to Equine Clinic in Hanover just in case he would need an operation. After an IV the stallion stabilized for two hours, but then his condition worsened and was operated on. The vets discovered that the stallion suffered froma diaphragmatic rupture and there was severe damage to the small intestine. He could not be saved.

Bred by Ekke Thaden and owned by Landgestut Celle, the black Dancier was by De Niro out of Lacarna (by Lancier x Espri x Einklang).

Greet Brenninkmeyer acquired Dancier as a foal at the 2002 Klosterhof Medingen auction. In 2004 he became the champion of the Hanoverian Stallion Licensing and was purchased by Celle at auction for 330,000 euro.

As a 3-year old he won the 300-day Stallion Performance Testing in Adelheidsdorf in 2005 with an index of 142.17 points. He scored 158.46 for dressage (1) and 103.44 for show jumping (19).

Under Wolfhard Witte, he won bronze at the 2006 Bundeschampionate in Warendorf and was 12th as a 2008 Bundeschampionate as a 6-year old. He was competed up to S-level and did his last show at M-level in Hanover in October 2012.

Dancier's passing is a major blow to Celle and Hanoverian horse breeding as he was the stud's most popular and successful breeding stallion.

Dancier sired 27 licensed offspring, including Don Noblesse, De L'Or, DeLorean, Devonport, Danciano, Dragon Welt, and Dancing World. No less than 92 of his daughter were named state premium mare.  Ten of his offspring are competing at S-level; his best scoring son is the Grand Prix horse Don Noblesse (Susan Pape). Other famous offspring is Dancing Diamond (2016 Bundeschampionate winner and World Young Horse Championdshipd finalist).

Dancier won the 2014 Grande Prize for his achievements as a breeding stallion.
