The American Hanoverian Society, Inc. (AHS), in cooperation with the Hanoverian Verband (HV) and the German Oldenburg Verband (OHBS), is excited to announce the establishment of a new North American three-day stallion test.

Open to 4-, 5-, and 6-year old stallions from the AHS, OHBS, and other registries, the testing will provide North American stallion owners with an opportunity for their stallions to earn lifetime breeding approval according to the regulations of their specific registries.

In 2017, two three-day stallion tests will be offered, one on each coast. The first test will be held on the East Coast on October 31 - November 2, 2017 at Hilltop Farm, Colora, MD. The second test, on the West Coast, will be held on November 3 - 5 at Pollyrich Farm, Solvang, CA. Each test site will hold a multi-registry stallion licensing in conjunction with the three-day test.

The three-day testing format has proven popular in Germany the past two years. Testing requirements are specific to age and discipline. Each horse attends with their own rider and there is a Guest Rider component to the scoring as well. Stallions must attend two consecutive years of sport testing to fulfill their performance requirements with the AHS and OHBS as well as achieve a minimum overall score of 7.5 at each testing.

Dressage Sport Test

  • 4-Year Old: USEF Four-Year Old Test
  • 5-Year Old: FEI Five-Year Old Test
  • 6-Year Old: FEI Six-Year Old Test

Jumping Sport Test

  • Course of 1.1 meters
  • Course of 1.2 meters
  • Course of 1.3 meters

The tests will be comprehensive and rigorous; accordingly, stallion owners and trainers are strongly encouraged to bring their stallions to the test sites well prepared. The panel of judges and guest riders will be individuals who are approved by the German Equestrian Federation (FN). "German horses have a big influence on the breeding of sport horses in the US and stallion performance tests are one of the most important parts of a serious breeding program. The German Equestrian Federation therefore is in favour of the idea of doing a stallion sport test after the new German model in the US and will be happy to give any support needed," states Dr. Klaus Miesner of the German FN.

The testing is being run by the North American Stallion Sport Test LLC with the American Hanoverian Society office serving as the administrator. A dedicated website (www.nastallionsporttest.com) is under construction that will provide information on the full testing rules, entries, fees, participating organizations, and other details. Questions may also be directed to Hugh Bellis-Jones at the AHS office, (859) 255-4141.
