Wilhelm Weerda, the president of the Oldenburg breed society since 1995, has been honoured with the Gustav Rau medal in gold by the German Equestrian Federation.
The German FN bestowed Weerda with the medal for his achievements in sport horse breeding.
The 75-year old Weerda has been a prominent figure in the German breeding world. Aside from being a breeder himself as well as the president of the Oldenburg society, he has covered numerous positions in the breeding world.
Weerda helped build the Oldenburg headquarters in Vechta and integrated the Oldenburg Elite Mare Show in Rastede with the Oldenburg regional championships there. He was also one of the founding fathers of the show jumping division with the Oldenburg society.
