Italian former young rider team member Riccardo Sanavio has been hired as the new stable jockey for Edward Gal and Hans Peter Minderhoud, replacing Marieke van der Putten who has decided to start her own business.

Riccardo was born in Milan and was already in the saddle at the age of five. As a ten-year-old he took his first bronze medal in the Italian Dressage Championships. He represented Italy at the European Young riders Championships in 2008 (Azeitao), 2009 (Ermelo) and 2011 (Broholm). The latter show was his last international competition.

At the age of 24, Riccardo Sanavio went to Germany, there to continue to concentrate on his training. It was there that Riccardo worked for Daniel Ramseier before moving to Andreas Helgstrand in March 2016.

The young Italian looks forward to working with Nicole Werner, Hans Peter Minderhoud and Edward Gal, who are sponsored by Austrian gun mogul Gaston Glock.

"When I heard that Marieke was going to become self-employed and that her position would be vacant, I knew I just had to apply," said Sanavio. "I’m already looking forward to my future tasks and I’m incredibly proud that I will become one of the team."
