There was an unusual gift wrapped under the Christmas tree of Swedish Grand Prix rider Charlotte Haid-Bondergaard. Her husband Rasmus and her family surprised her with a new horse, the 4-year old Oldenburg stallion Don Juan's Duvetico.
Haid-Bondergaard saw her horse stock increase and change over the past few months. She sold her top Grand Prix horse Triviant to her student Elesse Tzinberg and acquired a new Grand Prix horse with San Andreas. The family also recently purchased the young stallion Bergakra's Amaranth and they have now added the 7-year old Don Juan's Duvetico to that list.
The 2012 born Oldenburg stallion Don Juan's Duvetico is bred by Carmen Freiesleben and was owned by Jennifer Adamiak. He is by Don Juan de Hus out of Distelqueen (by Davignon x Arogno x Matador). he got licensed in 2014 for the Baden-Wurttemberger society and completed his 50-day performance testing in November in Schlieckau with a score of 8.39 points.
The chestnut stallion began his show career as a 3-year old under Corinna Federkeil but Wanda Melani Tiemann took over in the middle of the 2015 show season. The pair became the reserve champions in the 3-year old stallion class at the 2015 Oldenburg Regional Championships in Rastede. The combination was selected as Oldenburg reserve pair for the 2015 Bundeschampionate. Federkeil was back on board in 2016 to show him at A-level and his last competition the horse won at a local event in Kämpfelbachtal under owner Adamiak.
"Knowing the breeder of Don Juan's Duvetico, Rasmus has had an eye on the stallion for a longer time," Charlotte told Eurodressage. "After the stallion test in Schlickau there was a huge interest in the stallion. So we were lucky to be able to purchase him as a very promising young stallion for Sweden with a very interesting pedigree."
