During the FEI Dressage Committee conference call meeting of 19 December 2016, the committee members agreed on setting a new Minimum Eligibility Standard for the 2018 World Equestrian Games. They also agreed on keeping the Young Horse standard the same.

The FEI Dressage Committee, which currently includes Maribel Alonso, Luis Lucio, George Williams, Anna Paprocka Campanella , Klaus Roeser, chair Frank Kemperman and Dressage Director Bettina de Rham, decided on 66% as the minimum eligibility qualification requirement for the 2018 WEG. In the past this score was set at 64%.

Questions had been received from National Federations on whether the Young Horse Guidelines were to be modified for 2017. The Committee decided to keep the current qualification scores (75% for 5 and 6-year old horses; 70% for 7-year old horses)

"To ensure that NFs respected the required levels in national tests. A sentence “NFs are responsible for ensuring that the level of the national test used for qualification scores is equivalent to the level of the FEI tests for 5, 6 and 7 year olds.” was to be added to the Guidelines," read the minutes of the 2016 December DC meeting.
