Beatriz Ferrer-Salat lost her second Grand Prix horse, Sir Radjah, to colic on the horse's trip home from the 2016 CDI Geneva on Sunday 11 December 2016.

The 11-year old Westfalian gelding was on the road from Geneva to Barcelona when he developed a colic on the lorry. An emergency stop was made at the equine clinic in Lyon, France, where the horse was immediately operated on for a complicated twisted colon, but he never made it out of surgery. The horse did not wake up from anaesthesia.

Sir Radjah was bred by Josef Volle in Germany and was by Sir Donnerhall out of Romina (by Radjah Z x Ganymed I x Romadour II).

The dark bay gelding began his competition career in Germany under Theresia Heimann, who competed him as a 3-year old in three riding horse tests. Spanish Olympian Ferrer-Salat acquired him as a 4-year old from Bert Noffke in 2009.

The duo made its international show debut at small tour level at the 2013 Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain. They won the Prix St Georges and Intermediaire I. One year later the horse moved up to Grand Prix and did his first international at the 2014 CDI Barcelona where he finished third in the Grand Prix and Special.

Ferrer-Salat consistently competed Sir Radjah at Grand Prix level the past three years. Their Grand Prix high score was achieved at the 2015 CDI Barcelona, where they poted 73.980% on the board. At last weekend's CDI Geneva the pair was second in the Grand Prix with 73.220% and third in the freestyle with 75.720%.

"A million thanks Radjah for the many happy moments we had together," Ferrer-Salat posted on her Facebook account. "I will be eternally grateful and one day we will meet again. I hope I have given you the life you deserved."
