2016 Brightwells Auction

The show jumper Ibiza became the top selling horse at the 2016 Brightwells December Elite Auction at Addington Manor in Great Britain on 4 December 2016.

Fifty-seven carefully selected dressage, show jumping and eventing prospects, combined with a worldwide audience of prospective buyers, were the two ingredients which made the Brightwells 2016 December Elite Auction another successful event at which to buy and sell.

Once again, the catalogue of selected entries attracted global interest to this premier event, with an ever-increasing participation from international buyers. Social media and live streaming both the presentations and auction on the Saturday evening, are clearly playing a big part in reaching overseas clients.

In the days leading up to the sale, a flurry of enquiries had been fielded from France, Holland, Germany and Ireland, with also further interest expressed from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the USA.
Three horses found new homes over the water: the 3-year old mare I Am Special (by Dannebrog) was sold to Ireland for £15,000 (17,778 euro). The 3-year old jumper Bounty Hunter (by Bugatti) is on his way to Australia and the 3-year old jumper Ivar SS (by Cassini Gold) is off to New Jersey in America (£21,500 or 25,479 €).

Ibiza Top Seller

The combination of a faultless loose jumping display and a strong performance pedigree was enough to secure a top price of £31,000 for Ibiza at this year’s December 2016 Elite Auction at Addington.
Ibiza, a 3-year-old daughter of Cardento, was consigned by Brink Stables in Holland and showed a glimpse of her future potential, when putting in eye-catching loose jumping performance’s in both the presentation, earlier in the day and during the auction itself. After a hard fought battle in the auction the hammer eventually fell in favour to Melanie Davies of Worcestershire.

On the night, five horses exceeded the £20,000 barrier and the average price showed an uplift to £12,803 compared to the 2015 equivalent, demonstrating the ongoing upward curve in values for horses at these sales.
Top priced dressage horse was For You, a striking 3-year-old son of For Romance, who achieved £26,000 and has found a new home with Mrs Knight in East Sussex.

The 5-year old Dutch warmblood gelding Giovanni BM sold for £25,000 (29,631 euro), while the 3-year old Dutch mare Inouk (by Desperado) fetched a price of £20,000 (or 23,701 euro).
