Laura Tomlinson (née Bechtolsheimer) has announced that she is five months pregnant with her second child. The baby is due at the end of March 2017.

“It isn’t a secret that I’m pregnant but I realised I’d better put something out online before the show. It would be a bit of a shock for people and I didn’t want them thinking, ‘Has Laura just got really fat?’ she told Horse and Hound. “Then again, there are people out there competing with bigger tummies than me!”

Laura and her husband, polo rider Mark Tomlinson, became parents of a first child, daughter Annalisa, on 16 July 2014.

The 31-year old former British Olympic medal winner Tomlinson is working on climbing back to international Grand Prix top level with Rosalie B, a 10-year old Westfalian mare her parents bought a year ago. After the retirement of her super star Mistral Hojris, Tomlinson has not been able to remain at key player in the British A-team field.

With Rosalie B she came close to Olympic team selection, though, after posting best scores at the CDIO Rotterdam in June. The pair last competed at the CDI Deauville in July, but now will return to the ring at the CDI Oldenburg and she has planned a start at the CDI-W London in December as well. Her Grand Prix debut on the Dutch stallion Capri Sonne Jr is still highly anticipated.

"I’m disappointed I haven’t got Capri Sonne Jr out as there haven’t been any two-star shows running nearby,” she said. “Although he has competed plenty at small tour so doesn’t need a lot of shows, but he’s coming on really well. When I have the baby Rosie will have an easier time, though Lara [Griffith] will keep her and the others ticking over for me."
