Dutchman Joop van Uytert became the recipient of the Freiherr von Schrötter Medal at the 2016 Trakehner Stallion Licensing in Neumunster, Germany, on Saturday 22 October 2016. Van Uytert was decorated for his efforts in supporting and promoting Trakehner horse breeding.

"The medal was a surprise," Van Uytert told the KWPN society. "I've been going to the Trakehner licensing for years and this year I was asked to judge the 3-year old mares. After a word of welcome it became clear to me that I would get the distinction. Of course we did much for the studbook. We bougth Gribaldi as a young stallion and he did much for KWPN horse breeding, just like Partout, Balzflug and Easy Games. A good Trakehner can mean much for breeding."

Siegfried Freiherr von Schrötter was the first president of the Trakehner Breed society, est. 1947, and ensured that the Trakehner continued to exist after World War II. Freiherr von Schrötter medal is bestowed on those individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the promotion of the Trakehner breed. Previous recipients are for instance Dr. Elke Söchtig, Peter Oellrich, Klaus Hagen. Joop van Uytert is the second Dutchman to receive it. Fred Hollaender was the first.
