Changes to 2017 FEI Equine Prohibited Substances List Approved

The FEI Bureau has approved changes to the FEI Equine Prohibited Substances List brought forward by the FEI List Expert Group.

The changes are published on the FEI Clean Sport so athletes can familiarize with them. The changes will come into force on 1 January 2017.

The consultation process for the 2018 FEI Equine Prohibited Substances List process will commence early in 2017.

The changes effective as of 1 January 2017 are:

    Used for anaphylaxis, heart failure under general anaesthesia and in local anaesthetics
  • AICAR (not Listed) ---> Banned Substance
    Substance with anabolic effects
  • Andarine (not Listed) ---> Banned Substance
    Selective Androgen
    Receptor Modulator (SARM). Substance has androgenic effects
  • Brinzolamide (Banned Substance) ---> Controlled Medication
    Used in the treatment of glaucoma
  • Calcium dobesilate (Banned Substance) --->Controlled Medication
    Used in the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency
  • Cobalt (not Listed) ---> Controlled Medication
    Increases number of red blood cells and haemoglobin to enhance endurance. Cobalt will be listed as a threshold substance 100ng/ml in urine
  • Dobutamine (Banned Substance) ---> Controlled Medication
    Used for treating heart failure during general anaesthesia
  • GW1516 (not Listed) ---> Banned Substance
    Substance with anabolic effects
  • Loperamide (Banned Substance) ---> Controlled Medication
    Effective against diarrhoea
  • Meldonium (not Listed) ---> Banned Substance
    Increases peripheral vascular failure and bloodflow to muscles
  • Midazolam (Banned Substance) ---> Controlled Medication
    Used in anaesthesia premedication and sedation in intensive care
  • Naloxone (Banned Substance) ---> Controlled Medication
    Drug used to counter the effects of opioids
  • Norepinephrine (not Listed) ---> Controlled Medication
    Used for anaphylaxis, heart failure under general anaesthesia and in local anaesthetics
  • Osterine (not Listed) ---> Banned Substance
    Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator (SARM). Substance has androgenic effects
  • Phenylephrine (Banned Substance) ---> Controlled Medication
    Used to treat hypotension and aid the diagnosis of grass sickness
  • Thymosin (not Listed) ---> Banned Substance
    Peptide with anabolic and anti-inflammatory effects
  • Tiletamine (Banned Substance) ---> Controlled Medication
    Injectable general anaesthetic
  • Zolazepam (Banned Substance) ---> Controlled Medication
    Used in conjuction with tiletamine for general anaesthesia
