2016 CDI Hagen

Exactly two weeks before the official start of the international equestrian event Horses & Dreams meets Denmark on Wednesday, April 20, the two organizers Ullrich and Francois Kasselmann together with dressage coordinator Dr. Ulf Möller met with representatives of the host country to provide an outlook on five days top sport competitions and Danish flair.

Organizer Francois Kasselmann is particularly proud to welcome the Olympic champion and current World Cup-winner Steve Guerdat (SUI) in Hagen. German top riders such as Marcus Ehning from Borken and DKB-Riders Tour title defender Janne Friederike Meyer from Hamburg will accept the challenge and compete against Guerat in Hagen. “Hagen will host again the first stage of the DKB-Riders Tour – we are very happy that Deutsche Kreditbank AG continues to act as title sponsor, accompanied by two new strong partners, Bemer Int. AG and mauser einrichtungssysteme GmbH & Co. KG,” says Kasselmann. "

Hagen is a trip for the whole family for show jumping rider Sören Pedersen who is already travelling to Horses & Dreams since 10 years. “It is simply very special in Hagen,” explains Pedersen who has already fixed his goal for the start of the DKB-Riders Tour in two weeks: “Competing in the Grand Prix jump-off on Sunday as representative of the guest country would be fantastic.” But he would have to see whether to achieve this goal. The Danish rider who runs a show stable in Winkelsett in Lower Saxony will occupy three of the approx. 600 stalls at the end of April at the Hof Kasselmann.

„136 Grand Prix-horses will compete at the CDI4*-Tour and the Louisdor-Prize in the Almased dressage stadium,” Dr. Ulf Möller proudly says, emphasizing the high number of competitors and the quality of fields of competitors. Whether Kristina Bröring-Sprehe, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, Isabell Werth or Dorothee Schneider – all participants of the first German dressage team will start in Hagen. Möller nevertheless believes in surprises: “I already saw some fresh horse/rider-duos abroad, and the one or other of them might probably mix it at the top.”

Princess Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein who will represent one of the eldest national flags in the Almased dressage stadium, looks forward with pleasure to the event in Hagen – and to Danish hot dogs: “Digby and I rode our first Grand Prix in Hagen,” zu Sayn-Wittgenstein remembers. The duo represented this year’s host country at six European Championships, four World Cup-finals, four World Equestrian Games and two Olympics in total. The Princess will participate in Hagen with three horses of the Danish warmblood breed – Fabienne, Dolany and Milan – and with great pleasure, as “Hagen is perfectly made for horses”, she emphasizes the rider- and horse-friendly conditions the Kasselmann-family is creating anew every year. Riding “finished horses” was out of question for zu Sayn-Wittgenstein as she would love to train horses and would usually ride home-bred horses.

Ulli Kasselmann, host of the event, could certainly be described as “restless character” – following the upgraded infrastructure last year, another new feature is under construction in Hagen. “Once you have started to move one stone you do not stop that quickly any more,” Kasselmann explains. He has started to build a new indoor riding arena that will perfectly match the tournament and that will be used as VIP-area for Horses & Dreams this year. “It is our goal to catch up with the best-known and approved international tournaments – and the new indoor arena is a real eye-catcher!”
