2016 New Zealand Dressage Championships

The 4-year old Sartorial Hit SW, the 5-year old Glamorgan By Design, and the 6-year old Leo Donna became the winners of the 2016 New Zealand Young Horse Championships held at the Nationals at Manfield Park in Feilding, New Zealand, on 5 - 7 February 2016. The three champions were invited to a Young Horse Finals round which was won by Sartorial Hit.

Six 4-year olds assembled in Feilding to contest their age division and the group was dominated by eventing rider Andrew Daines who brought two youngsters. He won the first round aboard the New Zealand bred Hanoverian Danzier (by Dancier x Anamour) on 80.60 points and finished second with Sartorial Hit SW (by Sarkozy x Anamour) with 78.40. In the second round Grand Prix rider John Thompson steered his own and Holly Buckman's stallion HP Fresco (by Fackeltanz x Lander) to victory with 83.60% after a disappointing fifth place in the first round in which HP Fresco, who is bred at Holstein Park, was too unsettled.  Daines and Sartorial Hit SW were second again in round two with 81.40 points. Their two consistent second places and points earned them gold in the 4-year old championship.

In the 5-year old division the title went to Amanda Berridge aboard Rhiannon Armistead's home bred Glamorgan By Design (by Glamorgan Gold) who finished first in round one with 77.00 points and second in round two with 69.80 points. Catarina Strom and Ashbury Skywalker (by Salutation x Zephyr Palace) followed in the distance. They were far behind the winners in the first round (71.60) but took their revenge in round 2 by winning it with 70.20 points.

There was only one combination competing in the 6-year old division: Alicia Collin on Leo Donna, a New Zealand warmblood bred by Julia Fraser. Leo Donna is by Don Quattro out of Leo Merry Dance (by Leo Godonov). Collin and Leo Donna scored 67.40 in round one and 68.20 in round two.

The three champions of each age division - Sartorial Hit SW, Glamorgan By Design, and Leo Donna - were invited to the Young Horse Finals in which all three were presented to a panel of three judges, including Australian O-judge Susie Hoevenaars. The judges proclaimed Sartorial Hit SW the overall champion and honoured owned Sheena Ross with the Glenvar Trophy.
