Spanish young rider team member Maria Dolors Moncayola has taken over the ride on Laura Aguilo's Grand Prix horse Hierro. The pair made its national show debut at small tour level last weekend.

Hierro is a 14-year old PRE cross bred stallion by the KWPN stallion Ferro out of the PRE mare Babieca XII (by Binguero). He is bred and owned by Arroba Ganaderia.

Under Lauro Aguilo the grey stallion made its international Grand Prix debut at the 2010 Sunshine Tour in Vejer de la Frontera, Spain. Aguilo and Hierro steadily competed at international Grand Prix level from 2010 till 2015 but with very mixed results, going for low point 60% scores to a Grand Prix personal best score of 70.600% at the CDI Barcelona in March 2015.

Aguilo announced his retirement from competition at the 2015 Spanish Dressage Championships in May and the future of Hierro was unsure as of then.

At the national show in Girona last weekend Hierro reappeared in the show ring under Aguilo's student Maria Dolors Moncayola, who scored  67.456% in the Young Riders team test and 66.798% in the senior Prix St Georges.

The soon to be 20-year old Maria Dolors Moncayola has been competing the 11-year old Dutch warmblood stallion Zchufro C (by Don Schufro) at junior and young riders level since 2012.  They represented Spain at the 2013 European Junior Riders Championships in Compiegne and at the 2014 European Young Riders Championships in Arezzo. Their last international show together was at the 2015 CDI Vidauban in March 2015.
