Spanish Grand Prix rider and dressage director Luis Lucio has finally achieved his appointment on the FEI Dressage Committee. This was confirmed on 11 December 2014 by the FEI Bureau at its in-person meeting held in Baku (AZE).

Luis Luccio was appointed to replace outgoing member David Hunt (GBR) for a term of four years (2014-2018).

The Spanish equestrian federation proposed Lucio for a position on the Dressage Committee back in 2011, but it caused a major riot between the FEI and the International Dressage Riders Club (IDRC), which believed that they were the only society entitled to select a candidate as "riders' representative" on the Dressage Committee. It even led to the FEI threatening to expel the IDRC as an FEI Associate Member.

The IDRC at the time had proposed its secretary-general Wayne Channon (GBR) for the position, but the FEI refused to accept in. The IDRC spent a chunk of its budget on legal representation and appealed the decision with the FEI Tribunal, but lost. In the end a compromise was made and Kyra Kyrklund (FIN) took up the position.

Lucio is joining Trond Asmyr (Dressage Director), Frank Kemperman (chair), Hans Christian Matthiesen (judge), Maribel Alonso (judge), Thomas Baur (show organizer) and Anna Campanella (rider) on the FEI Dressage Committee.
