The 23-year old Grand Prix dressage stallion Breitling W has been proclaimed Hanoverian Stallion of the Year 2014. The breeder and owner of Breitling W were honoured at the 2014 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing in Verden, Germany, on Saturday 25 October 2014 and Breitling W made a in-hand appearance to receive a special cooler embroidered with the prestigious title.

Born in 1991, Breitling W is by Bismarck out of Maja (by Maat x Gralsritter. He was bred by Hermann Niehus in Rahden and is owned by his son-in-law Wolfram Wittig. Breitling W grew in the stables of Wolfram and Brigitte Wittig, where dam Maja has already produced the small tour horses Dancing Queen and Durbridge W (by Diadem). Maja's first offspring by Bismarck was Biagotti W, four years later Breitling W followed.

Breitling W was primarly trained as a dressage horse and his breeding career stood on the back burner. He was licensed in Verden in 1998 and at the time he had already competed at the Bundeschampionate and was a finalist in the Nurnberger Burgpokal (Developing PSG Championships). Up until 2007 Wolfram and Breitling W gathered no less than 170 top results. He was competed in international Grand Prix level and won the Nations' Cup in Hickstead in 2001.

Although Breitling W has not bred much, he has 79 reigstered sport horses of which no less than 28 have been successful at S-level or higher. His most successful offspring is Victoria Max-Theurer's Grand Prix horse Blind Date, which won the 2014 Austrian Dressage Championships.  Balmoral W was the winner of the 2013 German Developing Grand Prix horse championship. His licensed son Burlington FRH (out of a Rohdiamant dam) was member of the gold medal winning German team at the 2012 European Young Riders Championships and won the 2013 Nurnberger Burgpokal Finals under Charlott Maria Schurmann. Breitling W has sired four licensed offspring and five state premium mares.

Breitling started breeding more only after he was retired from competition in 2007 so the majority of his offspring is still quite young to date.
