The German Equestrian Federation has annouced the twenty qualified rider-and-pony combinations which are eligble to contest the 2014 German Developing Pony Rider Championships (Bundesnachwuchschampionat) held at the indoor competition in Verden, Germany, on 14 - 16 November 2014.
The German Developing Pony Rider Championships are a way to scout for young pony talent that is most likely to continue onwards in the FEI Pony level classes in a short period of time. Each region in Germany had to select their young stars for the selection training seminar in Warendorf, where German dressage pony team trainer Connie Endres and dressage trainer Oliver Oelrich assessed the developing pony pairs and sorted them for the Finals in November.
This Developing pony rider system is a first chance for German pony kids to be seen by national team trainer Endres. Riders have to be under 14 and have performed well regionally at A level during the season. The regional riding federation selects them for the three-day-clinic held by Endres and Oelrich in October.
This system has been a proven stepping stone for now successful international pony riders such as 2014 German team gold medal winning riders Maike Mende and Lea Luise Nehls. A similar system exists in Germany for junior riders of which their final take place during the German youth riders championships.
