Jeremy Steinberg, who has served as the USEF Youth Dressage Coach since 2011, has announced he will be stepping down from the position Steinberg, who recently moved from the Seattle area to southern California, wants to focus more on his own riding.

"I feel strongly about educating riders and training horses and the USEF needs someone in the position of the Youth Coach that is better at doing the behind the scenes work than I am," Steinberg told Eurodressage, adding that working for USEF has been an absolute pleasure. "I've thought a lot about it over the last few months and instead of continuing to work to create the pipeline that the riders can work their way through, I want to get back to training riders and horses to add to that pipeline to create a larger base within the US."

Steinberg wants to help cement a better basis for the sport by training young horses up the levels.

"One of my biggest complaints and passions is that in the US we do not have enough young horses and younger riders coming up through the levels and into the Grand Prix arena.  Our culture is based on instant gratification and that doesn't mix well with horse training and riding for the long run.  The focus of the USEF is to bring riders up to team levels and create a structure that supports that, which is needed, but one I am finding I am not suited for as much as I am training the horses and riders to fit into that structure.  USEF is not an educational entity as it is instead the national governing body. I myself am an educator and finding the two things are not marrying well together."

In addition to his role as USEF Youth Dressage Coach at major championships and competitions, Steinberg has worked in concert with the USEF Dressage overseeing and assisting with development of the youth dressage programs.
